By Judith Kajuma

The Mayor of Victoria Falls City His Worship Somveli Dhlamini this afternoon has suspended the city Town Clerk Mr Ronnie Dube from office pending investigations.

In a press statement issued this afternoon, Mr Dhlamini said the decision to suspend Mr Dube was not done lightly.

Below is the full press statement by the Mayor.

“My fellow citizens and particularly the beloved residents of Victoria Falls, I hereby announce that I have suspended the Town Clerk for the City of Victoria Falls Mr Ronnie Dube with immediate effect. The suspension is in turns of the Urban Council Act section 139 which empowers the mayor to act in such a manner

“The decision to suspend him was not done lightly. Intense analysis of the facts and the situation on the ground left me with no option but to suspend.

“There are several allegations bordering around abuse of office, corruption , and incompetence  in general.  Some of these allegations are being investigated by state machinery. Given the predicament that Mr Dube is the accounting officer, it will be very difficult to properly carry out the investigation with him at the helm

“Council will also be carrying out its investigations

“I would call upon our beloved stakeholders, investors and residents to remain calm as mechanism to continue service delivery has been put in place.”

I thank you

Somveli Dhlamini
